This project consisted of extending the existing roof to cover the balcony leading to the top flats. To do this we had to alter the pitch of the roof from about a third of the way down from the ridge. There were steel columns fixed approximately every 2.5 metres with 200mm x 90mm timber lintels bolted in between to support the new roof rafters. Each stairwell was also enclosed by building a steel frame around them to support the roof. All the steel columns were then clad with Siberian Larch. The facade of the balcony was then finished using 150mm x 20mm dressed tongue and groove Siberian Larch cladding. The cladding was then treated with a UV protect clear oil to preserve its natural colour.
